Second-year Engineering Medicine (EnMed) student Sandra Zhi’s passion for capturing memories through photography started long before her medical school journey. However, when the opportunity arose to run for class historian, she saw the position as the perfect chance to use her hobby to help ensure that the class of 2024’s time at EnMed was well documented.
“My background inspired me to run for class historian because I felt extremely qualified, and I wanted my class to be represented well in visual form,” she said. “Taking photos, editing and making my classmates look great are simple tasks for me that bring me a lot of joy when I do them.”
Zhi joins EnMed from Austin, Texas, where she received her bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering from The University of Texas. She hopes to one day become an OB-GYN or psychiatrist, in addition to her plans to be a part-time innovator to further address the needs of her future patients. She says that she selected EnMed because she wanted to create a toolbelt of engineering entrepreneurship skills that will allow her to turn her innovative dreams into reality.
In addition to her role as class historian, she is also extremely involved in the Welcoming Committee that oversees socials and lunch panels for prospective students.
“I enjoy giving back and being a source of information and reassurance for these students, just as my friends in the class above did for me,” she said.
