Students from the Houston Independent School District will be central to EnMed’s summer engagement during a weeklong collaboration in June to introduce students to professional opportunities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), including high-demand careers in medicine during a camp titled “Future Doctors.”
“The free camp experience is for ninth and 10th graders excelling and showing promise in STEM education and future health care-oriented careers,” said Antara Dattagupta, a third-year EnMed student facilitator for the camp. “The program is designed to allow medical students to provide overviews and engaging activities that introduce the high school students to anatomy, physiology and pathology.”
Additionally, physicians from Houston Methodist Sports Medicine lend support to present opportunities in ancillary careers, including ultrasound, suturing and cardiology, in addition to occasions to shadow physicians on hospital patient rounds.
