Texas A&M University School of Engineering Medicine (ENMED) is pleased to announce that Faizaan Khan, a third-year ENMED student, achieved second place at the national Combined Otolaryngology Spring Meetings (COSM) – Triological Society on May 17, 2024. Khan received accolades for his exceptional research, presented through his poster, “Otolaryngologic Side Effects After Ozempic Use.” His research delved into the lesser-known impacts of Ozempic, a medication primarily used for diabetes management and ear, nose, and throat health.
COSM is an annual national conference that brings together top professionals, researchers, and students in otolaryngology. The event provides a platform for sharing groundbreaking research and advancements. Khan’s second-place finish in the general category demonstrates his dedication and research excellence.
Khan expressed gratitude to M3 Isuru Somawardana for his significant contribution to the project. This accomplishment emphasizes the high caliber of students at ENMED and the effectiveness of its collaboration with Houston Methodist Hospital and the Department of Otolaryngology.
“I am grateful to the Department of Otolaryngology at Houston Methodist for their outstanding mentorship and guidance throughout my research experience. Working closely with Dr. Takashima and Dr. Ahmed has been an incredible learning experience. Their expertise and encouragement have made me feel like an essential member of the research team. Their dedication to my growth and education as a student has been truly inspiring, and I am honored to have had the opportunity to learn from mentors who feel like family,” Khan shares.
Khan’s achievements inspire present and future ENMED students and demonstrate the opportunities available within ENMED to participate in significant research that can make a meaningful contribution to the world.
