Admissions Criteria
The Admissions Criteria for the Texas A&M School of Engineering Medicine were developed by Texas A&M Naresh K. Vashisht College of Medicine through a deliberate, evidence-based process that reflects the competencies essential to both advanced medical education and engineering-based problem-solving.
In alignment with the principles established by the AAMC, we consider each applicant’s journey and potential, not just their academic achievements, but also qualities such as humanism, dedication to service, capacity for effective interactions, unique life experiences, scholarly and innovative activities, capacity for improvement, and performance on the MCAT.
Academic Ability
As a trailblazer in medical education, the Texas A&M School of Engineering Medicine (EnMed) is redefining how physicians are trained – integrating cutting-edge teaching methods into a forward-thinking curriculum that maximizes every moment of learning.
Candidates with a strong academic foundation will find limitless ways to grow in EnMed’s fast-paced, innovation-driven environment. Our Admissions Committee looks beyond grades and scores, reviewing GPAs, transcripts, and MCAT performance as part of a process that values determination, creativity, and a passion for discovery. We view each applicant as a whole person, evaluating academic excellence alongside leadership, problem-solving ability, and drive to make a lasting impact at the intersection of medicine and engineering.
MCAT & GPA
Numbers alone do not define your potential. We do not set minimum MCAT or GPA requirements. Instead, each applicant’s academic record is considered in the broader context of their overall journey.
- MCAT scores: Reviewed as one indicator of readiness, in the context of other talents and experiences. Only scores from within five years of the intended matriculation date are accepted. A minimum 500 MCAT score is preferred.
- GPA: Evaluated alongside academic trends, course rigor, and non-academic commitments. A minimum 3.0 GPA is preferred.
This approach enables EnMed to identify innovative thinkers whose strengths go beyond statistics. Typically, successful matriculants have a GPA above 3.5 and MCAT scores of 510 or higher.
All qualified applicants with an interest in innovation are encouraged to apply.
