Contact

From January 2014 to May 2019, Alan Brewer served as a Professor of the Practice in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Texas A&M University in College Station. His teaching initially focused on medical device regulations and their role in optimizing the path to market for innovative technologies. Beginning in 2017, he managed the department’s two-semester Capstone/Senior Design course. During the 2018–2019 academic year, this course included 137 students across thirty-one design teams, all of which were externally sponsored.

In August 2019, Brewer transitioned to a half-time appointment within Texas A&M’s College of Engineering, where he co-taught courses in Engineering Entrepreneurship and Engineering Ethics. Although he concluded his formal teaching duties in December 2021, he continues to support the university through an unpaid adjunct role, contributing his experience to the EnMed School of Medicine.

Prior to his time at Texas A&M, Brewer was the assistant director of the Center for Technology and Innovation at the Texas Heart Institute in Houston. In this role, he managed physician-researchers working on novel cardiovascular device concepts, served as a bioengineering resource, directed patenting efforts, initiated grant proposals, managed research budgets and sponsored agreements, and ensured teams met their research goals.

Brewer is credited with more than 45 abstracts and publications and holds five patents related to medical and cardiac pacing technologies.

Earlier in his career, he held leadership and management positions in four medical device companies over more than 25 years. As Director of Strategic Marketing at Intermedics, he played a key role in the company’s seven-year streak of record-breaking sales and profits. His marketing initiatives have earned ‘IR Top 100’ awards as well as annual corporate marketing creativity honors.
