Dr. Farid Omoumi is a physician-engineer with a deep passion for medical imaging, particularly emerging X-ray modalities and image quality assessment. After practicing medicine overseas for several years, he moved to the United States to pursue advanced education in engineering, aiming to bridge the gap between medicine and technology and address unmet clinical needs through interdisciplinary innovation.

He earned his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Oklahoma in 2022, followed by postdoctoral research in phase-sensitive X-ray breast imaging at the Stephenson Research and Technology Center. His research contributed to the first clinical trial using this novel imaging technique to enhance breast cancer screening and diagnosis while significantly reducing radiation exposure. This effort was carried out in collaboration with the Huntsman Cancer Institute at the University of Utah and Hologic, a global leader in diagnostic and medical imaging technologies.

In 2023, Dr. Omoumi joined Texas A&M’s School of Engineering Medicine (ENMED), where he is helping shape the next generation of “physicianeers.” Driven by his commitment to integrating medicine and engineering, he is contributing to ENMED’s pioneering mission to transform medical education and redefine the future of healthcare.
