Tanmay Lele, PhD

Senior Associate Dean of Engineering and Research

Dr. Tanmay Lele is a distinguished professor in the Departments of Biomedical Engineering and Chemical Engineering at Texas A&M University. He earned his PhD in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University in 2002, followed by postdoctoral research in Vascular Biology at Harvard Medical School and Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Lele’s research focuses on mechanobiology, particularly how mechanical forces and signaling pathways influence cell and tissue functions, with a special emphasis on cancer mechanobiology. His work aims to understand the molecular mechanisms by which cell-generated mechanical forces and associated signaling pathways enable cell and tissue functions and how these relationships become altered in cancer.

Throughout his career, Dr. Lele has received several prestigious honors, including being named a Fellow of the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering and a Fellow of the Biomedical Engineering Society. He is also a CPRIT Scholar in Cancer Research and holds the Unocal Professorship at Texas A&M University.
