A new cohort of 46 students making up the class of 2026 arrived in the EnMed program on May 31. For the first 10 weeks, students are immersed in several introductory engineering activities during the Introduction to Engineering Innovation in Medicine course, which also entails spending maximum time in the innovation center.
“We are excited to welcome our future physicianeers to the EnMed program, which will be the catalyst for pioneering thought leadership and innovation in medical engineering,” said Dr. Roderic Pettigrew, Texas A&M University School of Engineering Medicine dean. “Each of our new students brings a selective lens and worldview that will not only invigorate their own learning and potential but spark new interests for their peers into the limitless possibilities of discovery.”
Most of the students are residents of Texas, with eight of the class members having earned undergraduate degrees from The University of Texas, six from Texas A&M University and six from Rice University. However, nearly 20 students arrived from across the United States — as far away as Washington in the west and Connecticut in the east. This year, two students are alumni of Ivy League institutions, Cornell University and Dartmouth College, while another is from the United States Military Academy West Point. Collectively, the class enters with an average Medical College Admissions Test score of 513.5 and a grade point average of 3.79 in their undergraduate coursework.
The students will participate in the traditional White Coat ceremony in late July.
