Angelica Sharma
Computer Science, The University of Texas at Austin
Angelica Sharma is from Katy, Texas and graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. During her undergraduate years, she served as President of Hearts for the Homeless, ECLAIR (Engineering and Computational Learning of AI and Robotics), and the UT University Orchestra.
Angelica is the founder of STEMkidz, a coding and robotics program for middle and high school students that she launched in 2021 while in high school. In 2023, she won first place at UT Austin’s Freed Family Pitch Competition, the university’s largest student startup competition, earning $20,000 to expand STEMkidz. Later that year, she was recognized as an Austin Inno Under 25 entrepreneur for her contributions to the city’s startup and technology ecosystem. Through STEMkidz, she hopes to make technical education more accessible, inspire students to develop STEM skills early, and demonstrate how technology and robotics can be applied across disciplines – including medicine.
Angelica’s passion for medicine is rooted in her desire to build trust in the healthcare system. Through her work with Austin’s unhoused community as President of the Hearts for the Homeless chapter at UT Austin, she witnessed the barriers many individuals face in accessing care and realized that rebuilding trust begins with meeting people with empathy, listening to their concerns, and fostering relationships that encourage them to seek care. She expanded the organization’s outreach from two to seven screening sites, introduced blood glucose screenings, launched Medical Spanish workshops and ethical case discussions for volunteers, and built partnerships with local nonprofits to connect individuals with ongoing care. Under her leadership, the chapter grew from approximately 30 to more than 200 members. In 2026, Angelica received the J.J. “Jake” Pickle Citizenship Award from UT Austin for her dedication to service and the impact of her work with Hearts for the Homeless in the Austin community.
Angelica chose the EnMed program because it allows her to continue integrating her background in computer science with medicine and pursue an interdisciplinary approach to patient care. As a Houston native, she also values the opportunity to train close to home while learning from diverse patient populations, clinical experiences, and healthcare innovation within the Texas Medical Center.
Outside of medicine, Angelica enjoys playing the violin, piano, and guitar, as well as hiking, biking, and running.
