Billal Lyzzaik

Billal M. Lyzzaik is originally from Beirut, Lebanon, grew up in Ras Tanura, Saudi Arabia, and moved to Austin, Texas as a teenager. Lyzzaik graduated with highest honors with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, with a technical focus in Biomedical Engineering, from The University of Texas at Austin’s Cockrell School of Engineering, and is now pursuing his medical degree through the EnMed program at Texas A&M University Naresh K. Vashisht College of Medicine.
During his undergraduate studies, Lyzzaik was recognized as a Cockrell School of Engineering College Scholar, an honor reserved for the top 20% of his class, and received multiple merit-based scholarships. He conducted research at UT Dell Medical School’s Dell Pediatric Research Institute, where he led cloning vector optimization projects and designed dosage-curve experiments to maximize protein yield for vaccine development. He also served as an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant in Applied Statistics and a Peer Advisor within the McKetta Department of Chemical Engineering for over two years. He also completed an Infection Prevention and Safety internship at UT University Health Services, where he analyzed hand hygiene compliance and tuberculosis follow-up protocols. Additionally, he served as an Apprentice in Dell Medical School’s Health Leadership Apprentice Program and was a member of both the American Medical Student Association and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.
Lyzzaik chose the EnMed program because he is interested in combining engineering and medicine to improve patient safety and clinical outcomes. The program’s unique approach to training physician-innovators aligns directly with his goal of developing solutions that address real clinical challenges. He enjoys applying engineering principles to understand and interact with the human body, and hopes to leverage his foundation in data analysis and therapeutics to make a meaningful impact as a physician. He holds particular interests in anesthesiology and infectious diseases.
Outside of academics, Lyzzaik stays active through running and weightlifting. He is also an avid aviation enthusiast: tracking flights, spotting aircraft at airports, and watching Air Crash Investigation documentaries.
