Cathryn Gunawan

Biomedical Engineering, Texas A&M University     

Cathryn Gunawan is from Austin, Texas and graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from Texas A&M University. During her time as an undergrad, she dedicated her time to Sling Health TAMU, a medical technology incubator, as Vice President Internal, planning and executing the yearlong curriculum with workshops on medical device design, guest speakers and mentors, and pitching events. She also participated in pitch competitions, earning 2nd place at the Para-Athlete Aggies Invent and 6th place at the BMES Medical Device Make-a-thon. Alongside her undergraduate studies, she performed benchtop research to study left ventricular assist devices in the Biomechanical Environments Laboratory and 3D characterization of microglia shape in the context of traumatic brain injury at Houston Methodist Research Institute.

Gunawan chose the EnMed program as it aligns with and combines her interests in both medicine and engineering. Engineering has always been a large part of her life and mindset, and she is excited to be able to continue incorporating that into her medical journey. She hopes to engage with the EnGen Incubator and the TMC community to improve her clinical problem-solving and medical innovation skills, better preparing her to take meaningful action to advance medical technology during her time as a physician.

On the recreational side, Gunawan enjoys singing, exploring new things, and spending time with her friends and family. She especially likes board games and rock climbing.
