Computer Engineering, Ohio State University

Emma Chester is from Cleveland, Ohio and graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Engineering from The Ohio State University. Her experiences span technology and healthcare with a focus on interdisciplinary integration. At Ohio State’s Artificial Intelligence in Medicine Lab, she collected data from patients and physicians across multiple specialties, translated those insights to inform the development of medical devices, and contributed to research publications. Furthermore, she completed software engineering internships at both Immuta and Impower.ai where she helped develop and deploy full-stack, in-production applications. She was also employed as a ophthalmic technician at the Cleveland Eye Clinic, furthering her clinical skills.

Throughout her undergraduate career, Emma held several leadership roles. As president of BRAIN (Buckeyes Raising Awareness in Neuroscience), she organized a 5K run, raising over $15,000 for traumatic brain injury survivors and their families. She also served as project director for the Medical Innovations Club, leading the design of concussion glasses distributed to athletes at no cost. Outside the classroom, Emma volunteered at a nonprofit cafe, serving unhoused and underserved individuals, as well as in an emergency department, a long-term care facility, and as an elementary school tutor. She also played on Ohio State’s indoor soccer club team and recently coached a U-11 soccer team in her community.

Emma chose the EnMed program because she desires to be part of its unique mission to integrate medicine and technology. Having observed how thoughtfully designed technology can improve accessibility and personalize care, she looks forward to becoming a physician who advances interdisciplinary innovation in an ethical and compassionate manner. She has broad interests across many medical disciplines, including neurology and cardiology, with particular interests in sports, aerospace, and wilderness medicine.

In her free time, Emma stays active through sports, especially soccer and skiing, as well as biking, racquet sports, and swimming. She also enjoys playing cards, games, and painting.
