Evan Liou

Biomedical Engineering, Rutgers University       

Evan Liou is from Toms River, New Jersey, United States. He graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from Rutgers University–New Brunswick.

During his undergraduate studies, Evan conducted tissue engineering and biomaterials research in Dr. Joseph Freeman’s laboratory, investigating hydrogels for skeletal muscle regeneration and nanoparticle-based drug delivery systems. He was selected as a James Jeremiah Slade (JJS) Scholar and held several leadership roles mentoring engineering students and organizing networking and community service initiatives.

Evan’s experiences in biotechnology, clinical care, and community service strengthened his passion for improving patient care. As a Quality Assurance Intern at Iovance Biotherapeutics, he supported manufacturing processes for AMTAGVI®, the first FDA-approved TIL therapy for advanced melanoma. He also worked as a Clinical Care Technician and volunteered with the American Red Cross Disaster Action Team, providing patient care and assisting families affected by local disasters.

Evan chose the EnMed program because it combines engineering innovation with compassionate patient care. He hopes to develop technologies that improve patient outcomes while pursuing a career in urology or vascular surgery. He also looks forward to serving the Houston community through programs such as Go Baby Go and collaborating with classmates to advance healthcare innovation.

Outside of academics, Evan enjoys playing and watching sports, hiking, swimming, and playing racquet sports. He also enjoys exploring new places, spending time outdoors, and taking on hands-on engineering projects that challenge him to keep learning.
