Kaitlyn Williams
Biomedical Engineering, University of Oklahoma
Kait Williams is from Double Oak, Texas, and graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Oklahoma. As an undergraduate, she conducted biomaterials research focused on developing a 3D-bioprinted model of the blood-brain barrier. Her work culminated in an oral presentation at OU’s Undergraduate Research Day, earning her the First Place award in Engineering. Alongside her research, Kait volunteered at Oklahoma Children’s Hospital, creating moments of joy and connection for pediatric patients and their families during their hospital stays. She also applied engineering design principles to address needs in the local community through serving on the leadership team for Engineers Serving Others. Kait’s commitment to service and leadership extended to her role as Director of Scholarship for Delta Gamma, where she worked to support her peers and promote academic success within her chapter. She also earned her EMT certification and worked as an Emergency Department Technician, where she provided hands-on patient care in a fast-paced clinical environment and was nominated for Tech of the Year.
Kait chose the EnMed program because she is passionate about integrating the structured, systems-level thinking of engineering with the empathy and adaptability required of a physician. the EnMed program provides the ideal environment to cultivate both and will allow her to translate technical insight into tangible improvements in patient care. She is particularly interested in pediatric neurology, headache medicine, and sports medicine; she hopes to explore how technology and human-centered design can improve the lives of patients affected by neurological conditions and injuries. Through the EnMed program, Kait looks forward to working alongside like-minded innovators and serving the Houston community.
In her free time, Kait enjoys curling up with a good book, experimenting with new recipes, and spending time outdoors. She is always up for a board game, watching or playing soccer, and trying out a new coffee shop.
