Kyubin Jang

Bioengineering, University of California- San Diego       

Kyubin Jang is from Seoul, South Korea, and graduated from the University of California, San Diego with a Bachelor of Science in Bioengineering and a minor in General Biology.

During his undergraduate years, Jang worked as a staff research associate at the Seungeun Oh Research Group in the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, conducting research on developing deuterium-labeled nanobodies as quantitative subcellular localization labels for Raman microscopy. He also established the recombinant bacterial protein purification workflow and served as the area safety manager.

Passionate about mentorship and teaching, Jang served as an instructional assistant for the undergraduate organic chemistry laboratory, working alongside a PhD teaching assistant to ensure the smooth operation of the lab while guiding students through experiments. He also mentored students in the COSMOS program at the UC San Diego Jacobs School of Engineering, where he gave lectures and guided precollegiate students through research projects. Outside of academics, Jang participated in musical theater with Muir Musical, performing in productions and co-directing the organization’s showcase.

Jang chose the EnMed program because it facilitates a learning environment where future physicians can integrate an engineering mindset into clinical practice while contributing to technological advancements in healthcare. He is excited to take on the diversity of learning opportunities found at EnMed and Texas Medical Center.

In his free time, Jang enjoys a variety of sports, particularly badminton, tennis, and golf, as well as playing the guitar, singing, and cooking from time to time.
