Luke Abrahams

Mechanical Engineering, The University of Texas at Austin

Luke Abrahams is from The Woodlands, Texas. He earned a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin, where he also completed the Pre-Health Professions Certificate alongside coursework focused on biomechanics, biomaterials, and medical device design.

As part of UT Austin’s combined BS/MS program, Luke was recognized with multiple University Honors and received the FIRE Undergraduate Research Scholarship. His master’s thesis centered on designing and fabricating patient-specific synthetic tricuspid valves for cardiovascular research, giving him hands-on experience applying engineering principles to a clinically relevant problem. Outside the lab, he volunteered one-on-one with individuals with speech and language disorders at Austin Speech Labs, an experience that showed him the impact compassionate care can have on a person’s confidence and quality of life.

Luke chose the EnMed program because he wants to solve clinically relevant problems through engineering, while keeping the patient at the center of every design. EnMed’s curriculum gives him the chance to develop innovative medical technologies while learning to care for patients directly. His long-term goal is to become a physician who bridges engineering and medicine to improve the way healthcare is delivered.

Outside of academics, Luke stays active through working out, tennis, and golf. He also enjoys baking, exploring new coffee shops, and flying his drone. During college, he was a member of the Longhorn Pep Band, and he still loves to play the saxophone when he can.
