Michael Lam

Biomedical Engineering, The University of Texas at Austin       

Michael Lam is from Plano, Texas, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin). During his time as an undergrad, he dedicated his time to conducting research in nanoparticle drug delivery and treatment in Dr. Peppas’ lab, where he published two articles in Biomedical Materials & Devices (2023) and Advanced Science (2025), respectively. He also helped lead and expand a cohort of pre-medical students in Caduceus, a small pre-medical interest organization. As the co-president of the organization, he doubled the size of the member base and solidified long term volunteering relationships with local foodbanks, including Micah 6 in Austin. Alongside his academic studies, he was also an avid member and choreographer of UT Barkada, a 80-person competitive dance team. Leading with four other student choreographers, the team placed 2nd at GoodPhil, a state-wide dance competition during the 2023-2024 season. After graduating, Lam worked full-time as a Manufacturing Associate at Moderna, where he worked on research cell banks to drive vaccine research and production.

Lam chose the EnMed program because of his desire to revolutionize healthcare through cutting-edge innovation for patients across Texas, but especially for at-risk communities. With his multilingual background, he hopes to leverage his skills as a physicianeer to improve health outcomes for non-English speaking communities in Houston. In addition, he plans to employ his engineering skills and expertise to identify and solve problems in his community. Lam has interests in pediatrics, ophthalmology, internal medicine, and public health. Finally, Lam looks forward to being active in the local Houston community through volunteering at EnMed’s community health clinics.

In his free time, Lam enjoys dancing, trying out new restaurants, playing soccer as part of EnMed FC, and arranging flowers.
