Nicholas Ho was born and raised in Houston, TX. He graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering and a minor in Biology from the University of Texas at Dallas. As an undergraduate, he developed an augmented-reality guided focused ultrasound system intended for the visualization and treatment of metastatic neuroblastomas. Immediately following his undergraduate studies, he completed his Masters of Bioengineering in Applied Bioengineering from Rice University. As a graduate student, he helped to design a novel way to fabricate fillable polymeric microparticles for timed pulsatile drug delivery.
After graduating, Nicholas worked as Clinical Analysis Engineer at Medical Metrics, Inc., where he worked with expert radiologists to analyze medical imaging of over 700 various clinical trial medical devices and surgical treatments, ranging from spinal fusion devices to experimental neurological therapeutics. Following his time at Medical Metrics, Inc., he spent some time as a Product Development Engineer at NuSmile, a pediatric dental company, where he led designing and testing of a novel pediatric glass ionomer luting cement, launched a 3D-printed resin crown to market, and submitted traditional 510(k)s for an endodontic sealer and pulpal protectant liner products.
Nicholas chose the EnMed program because of its unique mission to develop the next generation of leaders in medicine and innovation. He believes EnMed will especially hone him into a physician able to leverage his background in engineering and medicine to improve patient outcomes, both through direct patient interaction and systematic innovation. He looks forward to engaging in more volunteer and research work to broaden his capabilities as a future Physicianeer.
In his spare time, Nicholas loves weightlifting, swimming, volunteering, and finding the best value meals. To end his days, he decompresses by playing with his two cats, Catheter and IV, and jamming out to Billy Joel.
