Rykhr Grissom

Biomedical Engineering, The University of Texas at Austin    

Rykhr Grissom is from Fort Worth, Texas and graduated with honors from The University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering, minor in sociology, and certificate in Spanish for medical professions. While completing undergrad, Grissom worked on the Research & Innovation team at Enovis Surgical, contributing to mechanical testing and materials research for orthopedic devices. She also spent time conducting undergraduate research, leading the biosignaling and software aspects of the Life in Frequencies Health Disparities Lab.

During her time at UT, Grissom developed a passion for urban healthcare and service, volunteering for both the C. D. Doyle Clinic and Hope Medical Clinic in Austin. Grissom also worked as an EMT for the Austin-Travis County Sobriety Center. Across these experiences, she gained a clearer insight into challenges with healthcare access for underserved groups, building trust within these communities, and the interactions between social work and healthcare.

Rykhr chose the EnMed program because it was the best choice to combine her interests in engineering, public health and policy, and innovation.

Outside of medicine, she enjoys running, weightlifting, pilates, and yoga and loves to learn about fashion and language.
