Computer Engineering and Computer Science, The Pennsylvania State University

Ahmed Abdou was raised all over the United States. He earned his Bachelor’s in Computer Engineering in three years and a Master’s in Computer Science from The Pennsylvania State University, followed by a Postbaccalaureate Premedical program at Columbia University in the City of New York.

Before joining EnMed, Ahmed worked as a scientist at Pfizer Vaccine Research & Design, where he contributed to clinical and non-clinical sequencing efforts and applied machine learning and AI to support the development of viral vaccines, including COVID-19 and influenza. He also served as a Staff Associate II at Columbia University, conducting large-scale analyses in proteomics, transcriptomics, and ribosome foot-printing data. During college, Ahmed researched Ultrasound Tomography, developing algorithms to improve image quality, and worked on trustworthy machine learning to ensure AI systems behaved as expected. He interned at Lockheed Martin, Intel, and Palo Alto Networks, working on GPS satellite receivers, AI chip validation, and securing machine learning-powered Intrusion Detection Systems.

Ahmed chose the EnMed program to combine his passions for medicine and engineering, viewing the program’s location in the Texas Medical Center as a unique opportunity to engage in groundbreaking research and patient care. He hopes to leverage his engineering background to innovate medical diagnostics and treatment methods.

Outside of academics, Ahmed loves to travel and has explored over 20 countries. He enjoys trying new cuisines and spending quality time with his family and friends.
