Maxwell Farley
Biomedical Engineering, The University of Arizona
Maxwell Farley was raised in Orland Park, Illinois, and graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor of science in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Arizona. During his time as an undergraduate, he served as president of his university’s chapter of Engineers Without Borders, working to improve essential infrastructure in underserved communities such as the San Carlos Apache Reservation. He also conducted wearable device research in the Gutruf Lab leading to four impactful journal articles, including a co-first authorship on a paper published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of the Sciences. These achievements led Farley to be named the “Most Outstanding Senior” in Biomedical Engineering for 2024.
Throughout his undergraduate career, Maxwell spent his summers volunteering in an emergency department and obtaining engineering experience through internships. Notably, he interned at the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, one of the premier rehabilitation hospitals in the country, developing a device to quantify spasticity in stroke patients.
Farley chose EnMed because he desired to combine his passions for both medicine and engineering into one cohesive education. He plans to supplement his medical education and future medical career with transformative research and innovation.
In his free time, Maxwell enjoys playing the guitar and piano, golfing, reading, and watching sports.
