Aidan Atkins
Biomedical Engineering, Texas A&M University
Aidan Atkins is from Houston, Texas, and graduated summa cum laude from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering with Engineering Honors. As an undergraduate, he served as the technical lead for a project within the National Science Foundation Innovation Corps (NSF I-Corps) program, developing a novel atraumatic laparoscopic grasper. He also held leadership roles on the Student Engineers’ Council, including serving as Co-Chair of the Engineers’ Week Committee and volunteering at the Engineering Career Fairs.
Throughout his undergraduate career, Aidan conducted research in the Translational and Innovative Nanomedicine (TRAIN) Laboratory, where he studied modulation of the tumor microenvironment using oxygen-producing nanoparticles to enhance the efficacy of immunotherapies. In his senior year, he joined the Lele Laboratory, where he investigated how cancer cells adapt to mechanical changes in their microenvironment.
Following his sophomore year, Aidan worked as a Research and Development intern at Procter & Gamble (P&G), where he contributed to the development and testing of novel drug formulations for neuropathic pain management and gained firsthand experience in translating biomedical research into clinical applications.
Aidan chose EnMed because he is committed to becoming a physician who not only provides exceptional patient care using current medical technologies, but also develops innovative tools that can advance medical practice and improve patient outcomes. His clinical interests include cardiac surgery, interventional cardiology, and cardiac tumors.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Aidan enjoys cooking, rock climbing, and playing tennis and pickleball. He also has a passion for hiking and exploring the outdoors around the world.
