Alicia Kim
Bioengineering, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
Alicia Kim is from Champaign, Illinois. She graduated as a James Scholar Honors student with a bachelor of science in bioengineering (therapeutics engineering concentration) and a minor in psychology from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC).
During her time at UIUC, Alicia was an undergraduate research assistant in Dr. Rashid Bashir’s laboratory, focusing on multiplexed, rapid, point-of-care diagnostic tools for respiratory viruses and sepsis. She has contributed to several articles published in peer-reviewed journals. Alicia was also the co-director of Engineering Open House, the largest student-run STEM fair in the nation, and co-led award-winning design project teams.
Alicia’s research experience has led to her being a Summer Undergraduate Research Fellow at Mayo Clinic and a Research & Development Intern at Eli Lilly & Company. Her desire to develop her clinical interests motivated her to work as an emergency medical technician for Illini Emergency Medical Services and serve as a prenatal intern at a local clinic.
Alicia chose EnMed because she is eager for the opportunity to integrate engineering problem-solving and analytical thinking into her career as a physician. She hopes that in the future, she will be able to help patients benefit from innovative medical treatments and technologies.
In her free time, Alicia enjoys crocheting, knitting, watching college football, word puzzles, and cooking.
