Electrical Engineering, University of Notre Dame

Eric Gallagher was raised in Clearwater, Florida, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame. During his undergraduate studies, Eric conducted research to develop a device for enhanced imaging of breast lesions by combining information from ultrasound and frequency domain near-infrared spectroscopy. He further explored and developed his passion for the intersection of engineering and medicine through extracurriculars like e-NABLE, where he worked with a team to design a custom prosthetic for someone who lost part of their finger.

After graduating from Notre Dame, Eric spent two years conducting bioimaging research at the National Institutes of Health. His work aimed to demonstrate how emerging optical technologies could be implemented in future standards of patient monitoring for those experiencing a range of diseases affecting blood flow and/or oxygenation. Outside of work, he volunteered at a local hospital and a free ophthalmic clinic and enjoyed tutoring math and history.

Eric found EnMed to be a perfect fit and progression from his previous experiences. He is excited to be a part of a program with a like-minded, collaborative community where he can receive training that will allow him to become a skilled, empathetic physician who works to improve standards of patient care through new noninvasive imaging solutions.

To relax, Eric enjoys staying active by running, hiking, and weightlifting. He hopes to visit all the major national parks over his lifetime. Otherwise, you can find him playing video games with his friends or eating popcorn during movie nights.
