Chemical Engineering, Auburn University

Ethan Wavra is from Birmingham, Alabama, and graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Auburn University. Most of his time in undergraduate research was devoted to studying plant biomechanics in the NIFE Laboratory located at Auburn University.

He continued his research at Aix-Marseille University as a part of the IUSTI Laboratory, working on a project that explored the complexities surrounding the Mimosa pudica, a plant that responds with movement to electrical and mechanical stimuli. During his undergraduate studies, Ethan rediscovered his passion for medicine while working at a Hematology/Oncology clinic in Birmingham, where he was fascinated with the logistical issues plaguing medical practices. He was particularly encouraged by the front office staff, who would often offer their opinion on how medicine was evolving.

Ethan chose EnMed because he sees it as the best program to improve his future patient interactions. Overall, he thinks of EnMed as the cure to systemic issues that provide small, but noticeable, inconveniences to physicians and their patients. He also appreciates the small class size and the innovation-driven environment that EnMed promotes.

Ethan’s two largest interests outside of his studies are golf and photography, which he gets from his father and mother, respectively. While he does not play overly often, he closely monitors professional golf. Most of his photography involves landscapes or shots in unique lighting. His favorite activity to do with his friends is trivia.
