Neha Aluru
Biomedical Engineering, The University of Texas at Austin
Neha Aluru was raised in Champaign, Illinois, and graduated with high honors with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin. During her time at UT Austin, Neha worked as an undergraduate teaching assistant for Organic Chemistry I and as a learning assistant for Introduction to Numerical Methods and Signal and Systems Analysis.
In her last year of undergrad, Neha worked as a virtual medical scribe for a urologic oncologist at the University of Washington Medical Center. She gained technical skills such as medical terminology and charting in Epic as well as professional experience that improved her ability to synthesize clinical information efficiently. After graduation, Neha worked full-time as a medical assistant in a family medicine clinic with Baylor Scott & White in Austin. In this role, she was responsible for performing patient intake, taking manual vitals, administering vaccinations and injections, assisting with procedures such as skin biopsies and wound care, and managing lab responsibilities including phlebotomy and specimen processing. During this time, Neha also became a certified clinical medical assistant by the National Healthcareer Association.
As an undergraduate, Neha’s research experiences included image segmentation on breast cancer tissue samples, data analysis of phase II and phase III clinical trials for myelodysplastic syndromes and acute myeloid leukemia, and background work on cellular heterogeneity within tumors in vivo. After graduation, Neha worked on a computational drug discovery project using large language models.
Neha chose EnMed because she aims to eliminate disparities in healthcare by combining engineering with medicine. She believes that developing innovative, technology-driven solutions—such as AI-powered diagnostic tools — can increase access to quality care in underserved communities and help close systemic gaps in healthcare delivery.
Outside the classroom, Neha enjoys reading, hiking, taekwondo, spending time with friends, and watching movies.
