Biomedical Engineering, Brown University

Amelia Khoo is originally from Alameda, California, in the San Francisco Bay Area. She earned her Bachelor of Science with Honors in Biomedical Engineering at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island.

While at Brown, Khoo conducted her honors thesis on vascularization trends in patterned engineered cardiac tissue for regenerative medicine. Khoo worked with surgeons at UCSF and Rhode Island Hospital to design prototypes for novel control of surgical tools such as neurosurgical microscopes and laparoscopic staplers. Following graduation, Khoo worked as a healthcare consultant and a volunteer music therapist for hospice patients.

Outside of school, Khoo enjoys singing, playing ultimate frisbee, and trying out new baking recipes. Despite being new to Texas, she is enjoying all that Houston has to offer– although she is currently welcoming any and all tips for adjusting to the heat!

After graduation, Khoo will further their medical career at Yale-New Haven Hospital in New Haven, CT, specializing in internal medicine.
