Nicholas Panzo

Mechanical Engineering, University of Miami

Nicholas Panzo chose EnMed so he could utilize engineering innovations to one day impact lives beyond his immediate patients. He is especially keen on collaborating with the world class physicians in the Texas Medical Center and his current research interests focus on utilizing new technology and tools to improve ophthalmologic evaluation and training.

Originally from Eustis, Florida, Panzo graduated Magna Cum Laude with his bachelor’s in mechanical engineering from the University of Miami. While at Miami, he was a student ambassador for the College of Engineering and played on the ice hockey team.

During Panzo’s senior design project, he worked with a medical device manufacturer to optimize a surgical device used in rotator cuff repair. After graduating, Panzo gained professional experience working first as a Power Systems Engineer in South Florida and then as a Senior Consultant in Washington, DC.

Outside of his research and studies, Panzo volunteers as a hospice bereavement group leader, spends time with his family, and exercises as much as possible. He still plays ice hockey every week, explores Houston running trails, and frequently challenges classmates in pickleball, basketball, and ping pong.
