Ecem Simay Kilic, originally from Houston, TX, brings her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in biomedical engineering from Texas A&M University to the School of Engineering Medicine. During her undergrad, Kilic contributed to the development of hTERT mRNA treatments for patients with HGPS and improved the method of studying vasculature using a biosensing microfluidic vasculature perfusion system or vessel-on-a-chip, collaborating with Houston Methodist and Texas A&M under the supervision of John Cooke, MD, PhD. During the completing of her master’s, she served as a Clinical BioInnovation Fellow, focusing on developing testing bed prototypes in urology.
After graduation, Kilic joined Fannin Innovation Studio as an Entrepreneurial Engineer. She worked with a team to advance early-stage medical device technologies, designing, developing, and prototyping concepts to minimize risks and establish successful startups. She later transitioned to a Quality Operations Engineer at Alcon.
Kilic’s decision to join EnMed stems from her passion for both medicine and biomedical engineering. She believes that being part of a program pioneering “physicianeering” in the TMC will provide her with numerous opportunities to make a meaningful impact. Outside of her professional pursuits, Kilic enjoys spending time outdoors, gardening, playing volleyball, and bodybuilding. Her free time is often devoted to friends, family, her two parakeets, and her golden retriever.
