Chemical Biology, Bioethics and Medical Humanities, Case Western Reserve University
Medha Narwankar chose the EnMed program because of the opportunity to better understand the benefits that robust and thorough approaches diverse perspectives can have in medical care. She attended Case Western Reserve University for undergrad, where she attained a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Biology, a Master of Science in Bioethics, and a Master of Science in Medical Humanities.
Narwankar brings a wealth of research experience to EnMed, including her work on neurological diseases at Massachusetts General Hospital and Stanford University’s School of Medicine. Her first experience with interdisciplinary research began at Case Western Reserve University, where she participated in a study of the electronic structure of DNA using UV-vis absorbance characteristics of molecules and nano-drop experiments. Narwankar has also volunteered in the pediatric department of University Hospitals and shadowed pediatric physicians, ICU specialists, and palliative care ethicists at local hospitals in Cleveland. Narwankar has also previously worked as a regulation and quality engineer at a biomedical start-up that focused on 3-D printing implants and devices needed for orthopedic surgery.
While Narwankar hopes to be exposed to different fields in medicine during medical school, her current research interests have expanded to include telemedicine, microbiology, epidemiology, gastroenterology, nutrition, bioethics, and medical humanities. As a future physicianeer, Narwankar aspires to be a practicing physician at an academic hospital while also consulting in medical innovation and continuing outreach in the community.
Originally from Sunnyvale, California, Narwankar is professionally trained in several forms of Indian dance and shares her passion with others as a mentor and instructor for dancers. She also enjoys swimming, hiking, reading, cooking and trying new food.
