Biomedical Engineering, University of Houston
Sarah Hakam grew up in Houston, Texas, and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering and a minor in Chemistry from the University of Houston. During her time at UH, she received several prestigious accolades, including being named top of her class at the Cullen College of Engineering (The Outstanding Engineer Award) and The Rising Star Award. She also dedicated her time to researching cancer therapeutics in an organic chemistry lab and teaching students how to code.
As a medical student, Sarah gained valuable experience through research in the field of nanomedicine drug delivery systems and Heparin Induced Thrombocytopenia. She also serves as an Aggie Ambassador and the Vice President of her class, while volunteering for her county’s medical corps. Her involvement in these roles has equipped her with a strong foundation to bridge the gap between technology and medicine in the field of Psychiatry.
Sarah chose ENMED because of its innovative blend of engineering and medicine, aligning perfectly with her background and aspirations. She is committed to leveraging this unique training to advance psychiatric care through novel psychopharmacological treatments and drug delivery systems, bioinformatics and genomics, and virtual reality and AI technologies. After graduating from ENMED, she plans to pursue a residency in the field of Psychiatry.
In her free time, Sarah enjoys engaging in various hobbies that allow her to engage in her brain in different ways, including video games, painting, and playing soccer. She also enjoys exploring restaurants around Houston and spending a day with friends shopping, chatting, and eating. These activities help her maintain a balanced lifestyle as she pursues her medical career.
