Dr. Lance Black is a physicianeer, innovator, and healthcare executive with over a decade of experience at the intersection of medicine, engineering, and entrepreneurship. He currently serves as Senior Associate Dean of Innovation and Strategic Projects at the Texas A&M School of Engineering Medicine (EnMed), where he leads efforts to integrate clinical insight with engineering-driven solutions to transform healthcare delivery.
Dr. Black earned his Doctor of Medicine from LSU Health Sciences Center and completed his residency in Family Medicine, followed by service as a U.S. Air Force flight surgeon, where he held the rank of Major and served in both operational and leadership roles. He later pursued a Master of Biomedical Innovation and Development from Georgia Tech, further deepening his expertise in medical technology development and commercialization.
Prior to his current academic role, Dr. Black spent over ten years working with medical device and digital health startups, contributing across product development, clinical strategy, and business leadership. He is a named inventor on more than 70 international patents spanning renal perfusion systems, catheter technologies, and surgical innovations.
Dr. Black is also the Co-Founder and Chief Medical Officer of XN Health, a company focused on advancing ventilator weaning technologies, and currently serves as Chairman of the Board of LifeGift, an organ procurement organization. A Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE), he is a frequent speaker on physician-led innovation, clinical trial strategy, and healthcare commercialization.
