About Engineering to ENMED (E2ENMED)
The E2ENMED Program is an opportunity for highly qualified high school seniors applying to Texas A&M undergraduate engineering programs (or currently enrolled college sophomores) to achieve early conditional admission into Texas A&M’s School of Engineering Medicine (ENMED) program.
ENMED is designed to train a new generation of physician engineers, physicianeers, who are passionate about creating and implementing solutions to the greatest challenges in healthcare.
The E2ENMED program is a highly competitive Early Assurance Program. Approximately 15 students will be admitted each medical school entry year.
Program Options
Option A: Before entry into TAMU
(Incoming Texas A&M Freshman Student)
Eligibility and Selection Criteria
The E2ENMED program will select students from a pool of National Merit Scholars (semi-finalist or finalist) who are seeking enrollment to Texas A&M University and a degree from the College of Engineering – College Station (see a list of degree programs in Texas A&M Engineering).
*For 2024-2025, the E2ENMED program will not require the SAT and/or ACT; however, scores are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Students must be National Merit Scholars (semi-finalist or finalist) to be considered.
- The application will open approximately November 10 of any given year (see below for cycle specific deadlines)
- The application period will close on approximately December 31 of any given year (see below for cycle specific deadlines)
- Interviews are offered to qualified applicants who have expressed an interest in medicine as a career; are U.S. citizens or U.S. Permanent Residents (preference will be given to Texas residents) and have achieved:
- A minimum cumulative High School Overall GPA of 3.50 (unweighted).
- Rank in the top 10% of graduating class (recommended)
- Score a minimum 1300 SAT (Verbal/Math) or 30 ACT (recommended)
- Interviews assess applicants on the following important attributes:
- Ability to communicate and interact
- Capacity for improvement
- Service orientation
- Motivation for medicine as a career
- Maturity, stability, and tolerance
Option B: After one year of TAMU college coursework
(Current Texas A&M Student)
Eligibility and Selection Criteria
The program will select students from a pool of College of Engineering – College Station degree seeking students after their first year at Texas A&M University.
- The application period will open on approximately September 15 and close approximately on November 1 of each year
- Interviews are offered to applicants who have expressed an interest in medicine as a career; are U.S. citizens or U.S. Permanent Residents (preference will be given to Texas residents); and have achieved
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 at the end of the first year of attendance at TAMU (and at least 24 credit hours at Texas A&M University)
- Complete Biology I and II and Chemistry I and II with lab with a grade of B or better in each course
- Interviews will assess the following important attributes:
- Ability to communicate and interact
- Capacity for improvement
- Service orientation
- Motivation for medicine as a career
- Maturity, stability, and tolerance
- Transfer students are ineligible
How to Apply
To qualify for the application process students must have expressed an interest in medicine as a career, be a U.S. citizens or U.S. Permanent Resident. Please refer to Program Options for Incoming Freshman or College Student applications.
The Application

- Important: The application must be filed online through the School of Medicine’s Admissions Management Portal (AMP)
- When creating an application account for the Early Assurance Program please select ‘Create Early Assurance Program Account’
- TAMU – College Station students must use an @tamu.edu email address to create an EAP account
- After submission of completed application items, applicants may check the status of their items by logging into the portal and selecting the ‘Status’ link for review. It is incumbent upon the student to check for outstanding items and ensure they are submitted by the deadline.

Letters of Recommendation
For High School Applicants:
- Two individual letters of recommendation are required, at least one from a science teacher and must be on letterhead (a science teacher is considered someone who teaches in the department of biology, biomedical sciences, neuroscience, chemistry, biochemistry or physics).
For College Applicants:
- Two individual letters of recommendation on approved departmental letterhead are required, at least one letter must be from an engineering professor who is considered someone who teaches discipline specific courses within an engineering field and the other may be a science or general education professor/faculty (an engineering professor is considered someone who teaches discipline specific courses within an engineering field, i.e., biomedical, mechanical, electrical, chemical engineering etc.; a science professor is considered someone who teaches in the department of biology, biomedical sciences, neuroscience, chemistry, biochemistry, or physics, etc.).
Letters must be on official letterhead and addressed to the ENMED Admissions Committee. All letters must be submitted through the application portal.
Transcripts
Unofficial transcripts are required to make the application complete. All transcripts must be submitted through the application portal.
Required Form – High School Option ONLY
High School applicants (Option A) must complete a Supplemental High School Validation Form. This form is generated in the application portal when applicants successfully complete all application requirements and submit the final application in the portal.
The Supplemental High School Validation Form is generated electronically and sent to your High School Counselor. Only validations submitted through the portal will be accepted.
Application & Selection Timeline
After applications have been evaluated, the selection committee will choose a select number of applicants to forward in the process and conduct interviews. From this pool, the final applicants will be chosen.
The selection is based on a joint process of the School of Engineering Medicine, the School of Medicine, and the College of Engineering. Students are chosen for their intellectual capacity, motivation for medicine as a career, service orientation and ethical responsibility to self and others.
Selections will be announced after all interviews are completed.

REQUIREMENTS for Early Assurance
The requirements below are for:
- Option A: Before entry into TAMU (Incoming Freshman Texas A&M Student)
- Option B: After one year of TAMU college coursework (Current Texas A&M – College Station Student)
By the time of enrollment in medical school, E2ENMED students must fulfill the following:
- Satisfy the School of Medicine’s undergraduate prerequisite course requirements:
- Grade of B or higher
- 47 semester hours
- Earn a cumulative 3.5 overall grade point average (GPA) and 3.5 BCPM (biological sciences, chemistry, physics, mathematics) overall GPA
- Score a minimum of an 80 percentile MCAT score with no less than a 67 percentile in each subsection.
- One retake of the MCAT is allowed if the minimum percentile is not achieved on the first attempt
- Complete a seminar course specifically designed to uncover:
- The intricacies of the medical school application and interview processes
- Medical school curriculum
- Issues that describe medicine as a practice and a career
- Explore medical device technologies
- Explore the Biodesign Process as it relates to entrepreneurship and invention
- Participate in advising activities:
- Advising sessions with the School of Engineering Medicine’s Enrollment Office
- Mentoring sessions with School of Engineering Medicine students
- MCAT preparation
- Research through the 12-week School of Medicine Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP)
- Gain clinical experience:
- Shadowing, volunteering or employment in a hospital or private clinical practice
- At least five to 10 hours per month for three years or minimum of 60 hours per year
- Perform community service:
- Participate in non-healthcare community service
- At least five to 10 hours per month for three years or minimum average of 60 hours per year
- Complete the engineering degree plan as prescribed and within the standard acceptable time frame
- Complete all coursework toward degree at Texas A&M University
- Commit solely to the Texas A&M School of Medicine
