Mechanical Engineering, Brigham University
Ronald Alek Sperry is from Draper, Utah and holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Brigham Young University. During his time as an undergrad, Sperry worked as a research assistant in a molecular engineering research lab and published novel approaches to the treatment of Type II Diabetes. He also worked in a biomedical engineering research lab that developed a compliant mechanism-based device for non-invasive spinal fusion surgeries.
Sperry is passionate about humanitarian work, and since high school, has been a part of humanitarian expeditions providing medical, and educational relief to populations in Mali, Africa and Kolkata, India. Through his medical education at EnMed, he hopes to acquire skills and develop devices that will allow him to continue to serve people both locally and abroad. Sperry is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served a two-year proselyting mission in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. He continues to enjoy aspects of their culture.
In his free time, Sperry enjoys running and spending time with his wife Josie. Two years ago, they ran Ragnar, a larger race with ten of their close friends, and they hope to do another in the near future. They frequent the local cuisine, really just Chipotle, and are in a constant death match with their 6-month-old cat Oliver, “Ollie”.
